For every 3kg of apples donated directly to the cidery in Bermondsey, Hawkes will give you a can of its Urban Orchard cider!
The more apples you donate, the more cider made, and ultimately, the more trees The Orchard Project is able to plant!
We’ve launched a new chapter in our journey to plant and preserve community orchards across our urban landscapes. Our cider team has changed its food-waste reduction mission. Through a new partnership with well-established, carbon-negative cidery, Hawkes, the apple donation scheme we previously ran in London is now able to expand nationally. On top of that, you’ll be able to donate to us and support the preservation of orchards, just by buying a pint of cider! How’s that for a win-win? Read on to find out more.
Since 2016, we’ve trained and worked with over 1300 volunteers to produce our community-powered craft cider and apple juice. We’ve rescued 32 tonnes of surplus fruit that would have otherwise been left to rot, and turned it into delicious cider and juice. Now, we’re joining forces with fellow food waste warrior, Hawkes, to reduce the nation’s fruit waste even further.
Hawkes cidery uses supermarket surplus and reject fruit to press its cider as a standard. Its strong commitment to reducing food waste and inspiring others to do the same makes Hawkes a perfect partner for The Orchard Project. Like us, their team are passionate about urban opportunities for apple growing and consumption, engaged with local communities, and dedicated to inspiring – and growing – the next generation of orchard and cider enthusiasts.
