We are excited and honored to be planting a significant orchard in Mandeville Place to celebrate the achievements of our athletes in the Paralympic Games 2012. We will be planting trees from the home counties of gold winners, underlining the link between orchards and health.
We have already held a surprisingly competitive longest peel competition in the park, and will be holding events in special educational needs schools. We have helped produce curriculum-related orchard-related worksheets for schools across the UK – for a (drumroll) competition to name a NEW APPLE. Core Blimey – which we developed ready to plant out last year – is delicious and doing very well, and we can’t wait to see what the new apple’s name will be.
We’d like to thank the London Legacy Development Committee for inviting us to be part of developing this new space, transforming the site outside the football stadium into a place of celebration, and we are really looking forward to working with local people to plant the orchard.
