The trees are dormant and the people are lively. At the weekend we planted pears and apples in three Islintgon Play Association adventure playgrounds with local kids. Then on Wednesday we planted 28 trees at Alexandra Palace Park – our second largest orchard so far. A strong network of groups helped out – Ground Staff, Alexandra Palace Staff, Friends of the Park, Park Volunteers, and young Horticulture Students, who then showed Primary School Kids how to plant too. The cherry, pear, medlar, plum, greengage, mirabelle, damson, apple and quince trees will be well cared for and are probably the highest orchard in London. Next – we are really looking forward to planting our first orchards with our new Helping Britain Blossom project – the first is in Camden next week and we are VERY excited about working in Birmingham, Hereford and Scottish cities.
