Our Project Manager Merrin Layden attended the NHS Forest Conference in Lancashire to participate in discussions around creating healing environments.
The Orchard Project has worked in partnership with Bethlem Royal Hospital in south London for several years to restore the traditional orchard within the hospital grounds. This beautiful natural environment provides a setting for service users on site to get involved in challenging and engaging activities like pruning, harvesting and juicing. In addition we have helped to develop a nature trail through the orchard to provide a place for learning, relaxation and escape.
The Occupational Therapy team, led by Peter O’Hare does amazing work combining therapeutic practice with nature conservation, vocational training, art and awareness-raising about the benefits of nature and healthy eating. A well-deserved recipient of the Most Innovative Site and Overall Awards and we were pleased to be able to accept the awards on Peter’s behalf.
The Orchard Project continues to work closely with Bethlem and we are developing relationships with other NHS sites such as Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and the Lambeth GP Food Coop. Watch this space!
