The Orchard Project are delighted to announce that we have just launched an ambitious and important three year project to connect Londoners with their local ‘hidden’ orchards. Our inspirational orchard restoration, education and events programme, designed to celebrate and protect London’s orchard heritage, is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, with additional funding from Heineken, The Postcode Lottery Trust, Mercers’ Charitable Foundation and the GLA.
We’ve welcomed five new members to The Orchard Project team who are excited to work with local communities and volunteers to care for 30 older orchards across London, preserving the fruit trees and their unique habitat and biodiversity.
We will provide training in orchard management skills such as pruning and grafting, run workshops for schools, and create an accredited Urban Orchard Certificate course.
We will bring people together to celebrate our orchards with Apple Days and cultural events reflecting London’s diverse communities.
