We’re looking forward to welcoming you to Meanwood Valley Urban Farm for a day of networking, talks, workshops and loads more.
Our special guest speaker is hortuculturalist, author, presenter, and journalist Alys Fowler! The Guardian columnist, and ex Gardeners’ World presenter will be sharing her orchard experiences and talking about how we can use everyday herbs to benefit our modern lifestyle.
We’re very lucky to be joined by Alan Thornton from Leeds Urban Harvest recounting their ten years of juicing the city’s fruit, Luke Justice from Meanwood Valley Urban Farm telling us ways of introducing Permaculture in your Orchard. Fruitscape’s Clifford Cain will be sharing how to identify your fruit, and tree expert Alexander Riley will delve into the underground orchard, Louise Cantalay from Abundance York gives us 101 things to do with your fruit, whilst mushroom man Sam Lawson helps us understand the importance of fungi in your orchard!
We’ll have a lunchtime (vegan) curry and cake served by the The Barn Meanwood, and you’ll have the chance to chat to fellow community orchard folk from accross the region, or perhaps take a walk around the farm before an afternoon of workshops to get stuck into. These include Juicing with Leeds Urban Harvest, Apple Identification with Fruitscape’s Clifford Cain, Mindfullness with Katy Bailey, Scything in the Orchard with Luke Justice, and Group Dynamics and Retaining Volunteers with The Orchard Project’s Head of Operations & Programmes Ella Hashemi.
Plus the West Yorkshire Community Orchard Mentor’s wil be in attendance to meet and greet you, and perhaps help with your community orchard queries.
