Summer Pruning & Mulching Blitz at Wild Cat Wilderness in Lewisham
- Where: Wild Cat Wilderness
- When: Thursday 14th June
- Location: Gate at no 53 Riverview Park, London SE6 4PL
- Nearest Station: Catford Bridge or Catford,
10am-1pm Mulching Blitz with maybe a little bit of bramble bashing.
This will be a wonderful day away from the hustle and bustle of London for the local community and LSE staff and students to escape the city to a beautiful orchard in Lewisham.
You will learn all about orchard care and then get stuck in for a mulching blitz where you will be adding bulky organic matter around the base of the trees! This is really important as it prevents competition from grass and other plants whilst retaining moisture and building humus in the soil. If you want to find out more check out our blog “Mulch ado about nothing”.
After the mulching, if there is the time you will get involved in a bramble bashing session! This means cutting away brambles and unwanted plants from around the trees to give them space to grow.
After a good mornings work volunteers will be able to enjoy bring & share picnic amongst the trees with refreshments provided by The Orchard Project.
In the afternoon there will be an informative summer pruning workshop on plum trees, if there is anyone who would like to stay on for this please ask that they let Lizzie know in advance (elizabeth@theorchardproject.org.uk or on 07889951054).
Please arrive on time for a 10 am start and bring your lunch with you for a picnic at 1 pm altogether. The Orchard Project will provide drinks.
It is advisable to wear appropriate outdoor shoes i.e. trainers or walking boots, and no open toe sandals. Please dress appropriately for the weather as we will be outdoors all day, and wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.
