With the recent hot weather the trees really need our collective help. Nicola Scott will lead the charge on pruning the stone fruits and offering advice on summer pruning while Dan Hasler from The Orchard Project will be adding much needed mulch, a good water and some much need T.L.C (Tree Loving Care).
WHAT IS SUMMER PRUNING?
It can be confusing to decipher which trees need what type of pruning in summer. Let Nicola Scott (Growing School) guide you in how to identify what to cut, save and train in the summer months.
By the end of the day you’ll have learnt more about how to:
- prune apple and pear trees that have been trained, eg cordon, espalier
- prune stone fruits (plums, damsons, cherries etc)
- we’ll also try to cover bud grafting
ABOUT THE TRAINER:
‘Growing School’ is the name Nicola Scott (RHS & PGCE-qualified) and Celia Hooson (DipSW & RHS-qualified) use to establish veg growing projects on school grounds and for the not-for-profit sector in South Manchester at no cost to you. She has led our training sessions in pruning across Greater Manchester and her wealth of experiece and creative ideas in orchard management come highly recommended.

VENUE & TRAVEL
We’ll be based outdoors for most of the day, please dress appropriately for the weather conditions expected on the day.
