This one-day workshop will help to restore the older trees within a private orchard close to St Mary’s. You’ll gain the skills and knowledge to take back to your older and/or larger fruit trees which may have lost their way either at home or within your own community orchard.

YOUR TRAINER:
Dan Hasler is the Project Manager for The Orchard Project in Greater Manchester. He has 5 years experience of pruning veteran as well as many newly planted orchards. Recently he’s trained with Bob Lever at the Fairfield Estate Community Orchard near Arlesey, the team from RHS Wisley and regularly co-hosts pruning trainings with Mark Simmonds of Fruit Culture. Prior to working at The Orchard Project Dan founded The Moss Cider Project so he has a wealth of experience in juicing, cider making and community powered enterprise. Under his supervision and guidance you’ll quickly be assessing trees, making cuts and restoring the 15+ fruit trees within this private allotment.

*We hope to also split our time with another local orchard in Addingham which has been planted and cared for by local apple enthusiast Derek Law. More details to follow as we seek permission to enter this orchard. This may mean we run past 4pm, or at least until the light fades.

This pay-as-you-feel workshop is provided to our network of orchard leaders across Leeds and West Yorkshire and the general public. Early booking is essential and please be generous as this continues our work of planting and restoring community orchards across the UK.

Please wear appropriate clothing as we’ll still make progress in light rain/drizzle and/or cold. Wellies are advised.
All tools and instruction will be provided although feel free to bring a favourite pair of sharp secateurs.

PARKING:
We will be based at St Mary’s Parish Centre (LS29 7JL) which is 10 min walk away from allotment and there is residential parking on Station Road or Grange Road.
WHERE TO MEET:
Meet in the church hall from 10:15am. Prompt indoor instruction will begin at 10:30am.
