Pruning and Grafting at Alexandra Park Food Forest (Glasgow)

Sat 30 March 10 - 5

Alexandra Park Bike-Hub (Next to the Food Forest) Alexandra Park Glasgow G31 3JJ

ALEXANDRA PARK FOOD FOREST
10am -1pm Formative Pruning workshop
Here’s your last chance to practise the art of winter pruning before spring springs, with an in-depth workshop led by the Orchard Project’s very own Lewis McNeill. Lewis has led workshops and courses in community orchards across the UK over the last 7 years and will explain the simple rules you need to follow to get your trees into shape for good health and a fruitful harvest, as well as explaining the biological principles at work in the trees and in the orchard.
Tools, lunch and refreshments provided.
2pm-5pm Grafting workshop
Calling all grafters! This is a unique chance to create your own fruit tree by learning the ancient art of grafting and take a couple of trees home with you. Taught by the Orchard Project’s Lewis MacNeill, who has led workshops and courses in community orchards across the UK over the last 7 years. N.B. you will need to be competent in using a sharp knife and be confident in your whittling skills. We will provide knives but we urge you to bring your own just to make sure we have enough. If you have a favourite apple (or pear) tree that you want to propagate, take a cutting of a scion (pencil-thick length of last-year’s growth) now and keep it in the fridge in a plastic bag until the workshop.
You will leave with two of your own grafted trees in pots. Please bring a bag to carry your trees home with you.
There are limited places available so book soon to avoid disappointment!
Book tickets here.
