Help us replenish the old orchard with new fruit trees for all the community to enjoy! Book your free space HERE.
Flixton Green for All and The Orchard Project would like to invite you to a day of tree planting at the old orchard in William Wroe Meadows. With funding received from Cadent, and support from Trafford Council we have 30 young fruit trees to plant and replenish the old orchard! These include apples, pear, quince, plum, and even medlar.
This will be a practical, hands-on day as we plant the young trees in the ground. Some of the tasks will be quite physical including barrowing woodchip, digging the ground with spades and using a tool to drive stakes in. Other tasks will be less physical including placing the trees in their new homes and creating a map. Please come along for the enjoyment of coming together with community even if you are not planting the trees!
Please dress appropriately for the weather and wear outdoor shoes. We will provide gloves and all the tools. No previous experience necessary as we will talk you through the planting process before we get started. We will provide snacks, and hot and cold refreshments, but please bring anything else you may need to be comfortable. All ages welcome, under 16s will need to attend with an adult. We will have a toilet onsite.
You can park in the free carpark on Pennybridge Lane and then it is a short walk through the meadow to the orchard site, there will be waymarkers along the way to make sure you don’t get lost!
