Come learn about orchard care and management at the fabulous Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital orchard as part of the Wild Harrow programme.
This orchard is mixture of veteran and young trees and there will be different practical tasks to get involved in, including:
- Weeding and removing brambles from trees
- Fruit thinning in preparation for our harvest day on 13 September
- Planning where the new fruit trees go
- Gathering windfalls and creating habitat piles
- Updating the map
- Removing dead/broken branches
- Connect with nature in a stunning traditional orchard
No prior experience necessary and suitable for all abilities. Please do book in advance if you can to give us an idea of numbers.

Practicalities:
- Everyone welcome, but under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.
- Please bring a bottle of water and a snack if you need one.
- All tools provided, but if you have them, please bring your own secateurs, gloves and hand tools.
- The grass is long and there is potential for ticks. Wear trousers, long sleeved tops and closed toe shoes, and please wear sunscreen and a hat if it’s hot. In the event of heavy rain/wind we will have to postpone and will notify you the night before.
- The ground is uneven, please get in touch in advance if you have any accessibility requirements.
