Orchard Action Weekend (Glasgow)

A weekend of orchard-related activity to get the trees ready for spring, in four different locations across the city. Special visit from London from The Orchard Project’s own expert Lewis McNeill for Friday and Sunday.

How to develop your Food Forest with Lewis McNeill: Friday 23 March, 10am – 3pm

Alexandra Park Food Forest

Opposite Alexandra Park Bike Hub, G31 3JW

Formative Pruning & permaculture design workshop

Morning 10am-12pm: Orchard health check & fruit tree pruning demo

Afternoon 12.30-3pm: Food Forest Design Workshop. Looking at next stage of the Food Forest’s development, using Permaculture principles to consider: herb beds, ground cover plants, social spaces and more.

Lunch and refreshments provided.

Tree Care Day and Birthday Party: Saturday 24 March, 10am-3pm

Alexandra Park Food Forest

Alexandra Park Food Forest is two years old! Come celebrate with us and help care for the trees. We’ll be planting a new pear tree, guarding, mulching, pruning and generally showing our love for the trees and fruit bushes. Drop-in to lend a hand anytime between 10am-3pm. All ages and abilities welcome, we can always find something for you to do or just pop by for a chat.
If you can, please bring a veggie dish for a pot-luck lunch at 12.30, we’ll provide the tea and birthday cake!
If you plan to help out please wear suitable sturdy boots or shoes and bring waterproofs. We can provide gloves and tools. Public toilets available at the cycle hub.

Orchard Planting Day: Saturday 24 March, 11am-3pm

Ruchazie Parish Church

4 Elibank St, Glasgow G33 3QN

A day of family-friendly activiity planting the new orchard of 15 fruit and nut trees in the grounds of the Parish Church. This project is a development of the raised bed garden at the centre which was rejuvenated last year and has lots of potential. Come and join in with digging holes, planting the trees, putting up stakes and tree guards, as well as Childrens’ craft/gardening activities.

If you plan to help out please wear suitable sturdy boots or shoes and bring waterproofs. We can provide gloves and tools.

Winter Pruning a Mature Orchard with Lewis McNeill: Sunday 25 March, 11am-3pm

Rose Garden Orchard

64 Errol Gardens, Glasgow G5 0RS

Learn restorative pruning techniques and how to carefully remove branches to encourage tree health and a good crop for the year ahead.
