About The Speakers
Lewis McNeill is a fruit tree expert and esteemed trainer, and has worked with The Orchard Project for 13 years. He’s trained with a variety of well-regarded orchardists and organisations, including Bob Lever, Patrick Whitefield, the RHS, East Malling Research Centre, Garden Organic, and Nick Dunn of Frank Matthews Nursery. He is especially interested in holistic orcharding, including soil science, microbes, and fostering a flourishing mycorrhizal network in the orchards he plants.
Leyla Laksari is the CEO of Living Under One Sun (LUOS), a community garden, hub, and cafe based in Tottenham Hale. LUOS recruits, trains and supports unemployed/underemployed locals and creates pathways to employment by training and supporting volunteers. They run a variety of weekly programmes, including growing workshops, a walking group, football club, and sewing club, among others. They are committed to engaging, upskilling, and improving the community.
Elsa Little is an ecologist and project manager for The Orchard Project. She previously worked as an Urban Forest Coordinator and as a Park Ranger. For over a decade Elsa has been involved in community food growing projects and currently helps run a community allotment in South Manchester. For the past five years she has worked as an Ecologist undertaking protected species surveys throughout the UK. Having studied Agroforestry and Permaculture, Elsa is passionate about the role orchards play in making our local food systems more robust and biodiverse!
