Friday 1st July - 11am until 2pm
Honor Oak estate, Turnham Road, Brockley SE4 2LA.
Help revive a community orchard and learn skills such as pruning and soil care. The first of a series of 8 Orchard Blitzes around London!
What is an Orchard Blitz?
An Orchard Blitz involves a group of people getting together for a few hours to give some much needed care to a community orchard that has become a bit neglected. As well as being outdoors and getting exercise, you will learn horticultural skills such as caring for soil, recognising different pests and diseases, and pruning.
Where is it?
For our first Orchard Blitz we will be in Honor Oak estate, Turnham Road, Brockley, Lewisham. The orchard is on the grassy slope behind Spalding House, near the railway line. It is a 10 minute walk from Brockley or Honor Oak stations. Limited places so please book your place here.
What will we be doing?
Activities may include weeding around the fruit trees, mulching with woodchip, watering, maintaining stakes and guards, and pruning. You may also discover a new orchard in London, build your community network, make new friends, and of course have fun!
All tools are provided. Just wear outdoor clothes. Cold drinks provided. Bring your own food or some to share. Expect to leave feeling good about the transformation your hard work has achieved!
This event is made possible by a grant from The Rank Foundation. Learn more here.
