Do you live near North Lanarkshire and want to learn gardening skills? Are you unemployed or on a low income?
Thanks to the National Lottery Heritage Fund, The Orchard Project is running a free training course in creating and maintaining a community orchard. The course is open to low income or unemployed people and takes place over 12 workshops at various local venues in North Lanarkshire including Bothwell, Coatbridge, Cumbernauld and New Mains from March – November 2024 (around 2 Tuesdays per month). We will pay travel expenses from your home to the venues.
You will learn how to • Plant and look after young fruit trees • Prune • Graft • Manage pests and diseases • Encourage wildlife • Look after soil • Design an orchard or forest garden
The course leads to a Certificate in Community Orcharding – either Level 1 (National 4) or Level 3 (Higher level qualification).
