Ideas on how to create and develop a community orchard.
You can find out about seasonal orchard care, designs, mapping and our special guest speakers who will inspire you into how to make your greenspace into a fruitful community hub.
Guest speakers are Sarah Bennett and Shona Nelson from the Friends of Saughton Park in Edinburgh. They will share the journey of the Friends developing trained trees in the walled garden and the creating of a wild orchard. From inspiring events to a fruit-based recipe book, the Friends have created a community orchard, that even HRH Princess Anne and a family of otters come and visit.
Chris Macefield from The Orchard Project in Edinburgh, will help guide you through a year-long programme of orchard activities, to inspire you in creating your own orchard management plan.
And Dan Hasler, the Manchester based Project Manager, will demonstrate our custom-made Orchard Design Kit, both our lovely wooden box of delights and also how to utilise the power of the Google Earth Desktop app to either design a new orchard or catalogue your existing fruit tree stock so that a three dimensional digital record is created.
