Friday 27th September 10.30am - 2pm
Rose Garden Orchard, Old Rutherglen Road, Gorbals Glasgow G5 ORE
Join us at the one and only Rose Garden Orchard in the heart of the Gorbals for a two part workshop on how to choose apple and other fruit tree varieties to suit Glasgow and the West Coast. This workshop will be led by Appletreeman Andrew Lear, Scotland’s leading fruit tree nursery grower.
10.30 – 12
We will begin in the orchard with a bit of apple ID, checking whether the trees match up with the old map and discussing which varieties have done well this year.
12 – 1 Then we’ll stop for a spot of simple but tasty lunch – soup and bread.
1 – 2 Then on to part 2, where Andrew will lead us through his fruit collection, we will have the chance to taste some, and dicuss what qualities are well suited to growing in the wetter, windier and milder West Coast.
This workshop is free to anyone who is part of a community orchard or garden, general public are asked to donate £10 when booking or on the day.
Finding the orchard can sometimes be tricky. Here is a map. It is in the Gorbals Rose Garden which is a small public park bounded by Old Rutherglen Road to the north, Errol Gardens to the south (entrances off both of these).
