Do you want to work in orchards?
Do you want to gain skills in gardening, biology and working with communities?
Do you live in North Lanarkshire?
We are running a new project, Fruitful North Lanarkshire, aimed at building a thriving orchard network over the next 3 years. Join our unique course that teaches you everything you need to know about managing and designing community orchards. You will benefit from our expert team of experienced orchardists who have already helped 100 students gain the Certificate – the equivalent of a Higher level qualification. The course will teach you how to:
- Plant and prune young fruit trees
- Prune trained trees
- Graft new trees
- Learn and apply knowledge about plant and soil biology
- Identify trees, plants and insects and encourage biodiverse orchards
- Survey and design a new orchard or forest garden
- Work effectively in community groups.
The course is free to attend and involves 3 days volunteering. Open to those who are on a low income, unemployed or not able to work. Volunteering will take place at our main venues in Coatbridge or Viewpark which are community orchard or community garden sites.
