Are you wondering what you can find to eat in your orchard while you wait for your apples and pears to ripen? Join Scotland’s foremost wild food forager Mark Williams of Galloway Wild Foods for an adventure in the urban wilds of North Kelvin Meadow, orchard and surrounds. There are very limited places on the walk (14) so book ASAP to avoid missing out!
After the walk you will be treated to a wild cook-in by Mark using the ingredients foraged on the walk, and there will be an informal summer social for Glasgow’s community orchardists – all welcome!
SCHEDULE:
1pm Welcome and introductions over a wild tipple. Meet at raised bed area on the west side of the Meadow.
1pm-4pm guided foraging walk. The walk will be on easy paths covering 1 – 1.5 miles at a gentle pace and we will see what can be found. You will get to try foraged treats and tasters on the walk brought especially from Mark’s ample and exciting larder.
4pm-5pm Wild cook-in after the walk.
5pm- 5.45 Interpretation session of the gathered ingredients, including laying out and labelling finds for photographs/learning, discussion of recommended guide books, Q&A, wrapping up, goodbyes etc. This is an important element to consolidate what we have encountered during the walk.
5.45- stay and chat and find out what’s happening in community orchards in other parts of the city.
NB – bring suitable outdoor clothing including waterproofs if there is forecast of rain, plus some water to drink.
